This page contains the testing data and testing photos for the 27 different 50 foot hoses we tested. We tested these hoses to determine weight, flow rate, and crush resistance. We also used these hoses so we could judge ease of use for each hose.

Below is the raw testing data for the 50 foot hoses we tested for this article. We tested a total of 27 hoses. The 50 foot water hoses that we recommended at the top of the article are bolded in the table below.

50 Foot Garden Hose Testing Photos
Briggs & Stratton (8BS50)
This is a heavy duty rubber hose that weighs 9.54 pounds and passed our crush resistance testing. It had a flow rate of 8.7 gallons per minute. It has a diameter of 5/8″. This hose did have an oily residue on the outside so you may need to wear gloves while using it.
Jackson Commercial (4008300A)
This was our favorite 50 foot rubber garden hose based on testing and use. This hose weighs 9.41 pounds and passed our crush resistance testing. It has a flow rate of 9.4 gallons per minute. Like most rubber hoses, it is very flexible and easy to maneuver. This is a 5/8″ hose.
Continental (20582671)
This is another heavy duty rubber hose. It has a standard 5/8″ diameter. This hose weighs 12.05 pounds and passed our crush resistance testing. It has a flow rate of 9.4 gallons per minute. Like most rubber hoses, it is very flexible and easy to maneuver.
Dramm ColorStorm (17005)
This is another heavy duty rubber hose. It has a standard 5/8″ diameter. This hose weighs 10.04 pounds and passed our crush resistance testing. It has a flow rate of 9.4 gallons per minute. Like most rubber hoses, it is very flexible and easy to maneuver.
Teknor Apex NeverKink (1094721)
This is a heavy duty vinyl hose. It has a standard 5/8″ diameter. This hose weighs 7.74 pounds and passed our crush resistance testing. It has a flow rate of 9.3 gallons per minute. This hose is made with extra reinforcement to help prevent kinking.
Stanley Fatmax (BDS6650)
This hose is made with a poly/pvc blend. It has a standard 5/8″ diameter. This hose weighs 7.75 pounds and passed our crush resistance testing. It has a flow rate of 9.6 gallons per minute. This hose was the easiest to screw on the spigot out of all the hoses we tested.
Flexzilla (Legacy)
This hose is made with a polymer blend. It has a standard 5/8″ diameter. This hose weighs 7.11 pounds and passed our crush resistance testing. In picture 3 below you can see there was no damage other that tire marks. It has a flow rate of 9.4 gallons per minute. This hose was our favorite overall 50 foot garden hose.
Gilmour Super Duty (874501-1001)
This hose is made with a 8-ply nylon. It has a standard 5/8″ diameter. This hose weighs 7.59 pounds and passed our crush resistance testing. It has a flow rate of 8.8 gallons per minute. This hose is built to be durable and resist kinking.
Tuff-Guard Perfect Hose (JGBEN)
This hose is a lightweight polypropylene hose. It has a standard 5/8″ diameter. This hose weighs 6.71 pounds and did not crush when we ran over it with an SUV, although it did bend slightly where the fitting attached to the hose material. It has a flow rate of 9.2 gallons per minute. This was our choice for best lightweight hose – it is built to also resist kinking.
Teknor Apex Zero G (4001-50)
This hose is made with vinyl. This hose is designed to by ultra lightweight (it won’t be as durable as other hoses). This hose weighs 4.53 pounds and did not crush when we ran over it with an SUV. It has a flow rate of 8.0 gallons per minute.
Teknor Apex NK (1094724)
This hose is made with vinyl. This is a larger diameter hose (3/4″). This hose weighs 12.4 pounds. It has a flow rate of 9.8 gallons per minute. It did not pass our crush test when we ran over the fitting with an SUV. There was a small amount of damage to the fitting after we ran over it – in picture 3 below you can see the fitting shape has been altered by the weigh of the SUV.
Swan Contractor Farm (ELCF34050)
This hose is made with vinyl. This is a larger diameter hose (3/4″). This hose weighs 11.03 pounds and has a flow rate of 10.4 gallons per minute. It did not pass our crush test when we ran over the fitting with an SUV – as you can see below there was a bend in the hose after we ran it over (picture 2).
Ag-Lite (BLBBSAL3450)
This hose is made with rubber. This is a larger diameter hose (3/4″). This hose weighs 10.82 pounds and has a flow rate of 10.6 gallons per minute. It passed our crush test when we ran over the fitting with an SUV – there was no damage to the fitting.
Gilmour Pro (840501-1001)
This hose is made with vinyl. This is a larger diameter hose (3/4″). This hose weighs 9.80 pounds and has a flow rate of 10.7 gallons per minute. It did not pass our crush test when we ran over the fitting with an SUV – there was damage to the fitting (pictures 2 and 3).
Flexzilla (HFZG650YW)
This hose is made with a polymer blend. This is a larger diameter hose (3/4″). This hose weighs 9.71 pounds and has a flow rate of 10.00 gallons per minute. It did pass our crush test when we ran over the fitting with an SUV – there was no damage to the fitting other than a scuff from the tire (pictures 5 and 6).
Gilmour AquaArmor (869501-1001)
This hose is made with a proprietary material and “patent-pending technology makes this hose 50% lighter than standard hoses and up to 10x longer-lasting than expandable hoses”. This is a small diameter hose (1/2″). It is designed to lay flat for easy storage. This hose weighs 3.66 pounds and has a flow rate of 6.6 gallons per minute. It did pass our crush test when we ran over the fitting with an SUV – there was no damage to the fitting (picture 3).
Flexzilla (LEGACY MFG)
This hose is made with a polymer blend. This is a small diameter hose (1/2″). This hose weighs 5.36 pounds and has a flow rate of 6.8 gallons per minute. It did pass our crush test when we ran over the fitting with an SUV – there was no damage to the fitting (picture 5).
Camco TastePURE (22753)
This hose is made with pvc material. This is a small diameter hose (1/2″). This hose weighs 4.48 pounds and has a flow rate of 6.9 gallons per minute. It did pass our crush test when we ran over the fitting with an SUV – there was no damage to the fitting (picture 3).
Teknor Apex AquaFlex (7503-50)
This hose is made with vinyl. This is a small diameter hose (1/2″). This hose weighs 4.76 pounds and has a flow rate of 7.0 gallons per minute. It did not pass our crush test when we ran over the fitting with an SUV – there was damage to the fitting (picture 3).
Flexon (PH1250RCN)
This hose is made with rubber. This is a small diameter hose (1/2″). This hose weighs 8.6 pounds and has a flow rate of 6.6 gallons per minute. It did pass our crush test when we ran over the fitting with an SUV – there was no damage to the fitting other than scuff from the tire (picture 3).
Cesun Metal (Cesun Tech)
This hose is made with stainless steel. This is a small diameter hose (1/2″). This hose weighs 5.26 pounds and has a flow rate of 4.4 gallons per minute. It did pass our crush test when we ran over the fitting with an SUV – there was no damage to the fitting (picture 3).
Bionic Steel Pro (2428)
This hose is made with stainless steel. This is a small diameter hose (1/2″). This hose weighs 5.39 pounds and has a flow rate of 3.9 gallons per minute. It did pass our crush test when we ran over the fitting with an SUV – there was no damage to the fitting (picture 3). But it is important to note it has a plastic valve on the end that would likely crush if ran over.
Tardigrade Steel (GMG Steel)
This hose is made with stainless steel. This is a small diameter hose (1/2″). This hose weighs 4.8 pounds and has a flow rate of 4.6 gallons per minute. It did pass our crush test when we ran over the fitting with an SUV – there was no damage to the fitting (picture 3).
Water Right (PCH-050-MG-6PKRS)
This is a coiled hose made with polyurethane. This is a small diameter hose (1/2″). This hose weighs 3.03 pounds and has a flow rate of 2.9 gallons per minute. It did pass our crush test when we ran over the fitting with an SUV – there was no damage to the fitting (picture 3).
GardGuard (GD-HOSE-GRE50)
This is an expandable hose made with polyester. This is a small diameter hose. This hose weighs 1.97 pounds and has a flow rate of 3.9 gallons per minute. It did pass our crush test when we ran over the fitting with an SUV – there was no damage to the fitting (picture 3).
Flexi Hose (EA-REDX-4ZWD)
This is an expandable hose made with latex material. This is a small diameter hose. This hose weighs 2.3 pounds and has a flow rate of 3.89 gallons per minute. It did pass our crush test when we ran over the fitting with an SUV – there was no damage to the fitting (picture 3).
FitLife Expandable
This is an expandable hose made with polyester material. This is a small diameter hose. This hose weighs 2.22 pounds and has a flow rate of 4.2 gallons per minute. It did pass our crush test when we ran over the fitting with an SUV – there was no damage to the fitting (picture 3).
